What will the parents of students at St. Joseph's do to support this program?

  • Attend meetings that communicate the roles and responsibilities of parents in the program.
  • Understand that they have full authority to restrict MacBook usage at home. Examples are: where MacBooks are used in the family home, examining the MacBook contents, ensuring that MacBooks aren’t taken to other peoples houses or when travelling (except to and from school), making rules at their discretion.
  • Understand that they have a right and responsibility to constantly check their child’s use of the MacBook by checking Internet history, files on the MacBook and use of social networking sites to determine their appropriateness.
  • Ensure that MacBooks are used according to the St. Jospeh's Internet Acceptable Use policy when used at home.
  • Inform St. Joseph's Primary School immediately of any damage or theft of the MacBook. Theft of a MacBook will require that parents complete a police report.
  • Monitor student use of the MacBook at home ensuring that students are using the MacBook according to the guidelines set out in this document and communicated via other means such as newsletters, email or notes home.

Parents will be required to sign the Internet Use Policy and the Hire Agreement prior to students taking the MacBooks home.
